Green Team
Our GREEN TEAM MISSION is environmental stewardship through education, outreach and fun. The UU 7th Principal, Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part, inspires us to be change agents within our congregation and other local, regional, state, national, and global organizations
Meetings
Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at 2:00 PM in the church social hall.
All are welcome!

Opportunities
“Armchair Advocacy”
We follow environmentally sensitive legislative proposals and changes on the national, state and local level, contacting legislators to voice our concerns and sometimes testifying on key issues such as flooding, PFAS (micro plastics) and preemption of local planning. We often coordinate efforts with other organizations such as the League of Women Voters, 1000 Friends of Florida, Audubon and others.

Longleaf Pine Preserve
We provide trail maintenance 3-4 times annually to pull and help eliminate invasive plants, such as Caesarweed (Urena lobata) in the parking area. We also pick up litter and enjoy a walk along the trail.

Earth Day Sunday Service
We coordinate an annual Earth Day program. Previous topics have included Native American spirituality with poetry and music, appreciation of our oceans, rivers, lakes, and more.
Environmental Speakers
We have had speakers for Sunday services and other events. Most recently we heard from the St. Johns Riverkeepers at the Kirkpatrick (formerly Rodman) Dam on the Ocklawaha River about breaching the dam to “free” the waters.
MUU-vie Night
We host current environmental documentaries covering a wide range of topics such as food supply, climate change, etc. Occasionally we include a vegan potluck before the movie.
Workshops
We have had programs on invasive plants in Florida for our congregation and interested public. Future topics may include seed cultivation and vegan cooking.
Seasonal Bonfires
These take place in the corner of our parking lot at sunset. People are welcome to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages to share, along with musical instruments. On occasion, there has been an environmental speaker.
